Summer is here and quarantine is lifting! That means it’s time to go shopping! I recently did just that and want to share with you the 8 essential items women over 40 must have for Summer. This list contains some of my favorite beauty products and trending Summer styles, and I get no commission for my recommendations. I hope you like it!
1. Kevin.Murphy Hair Products
When I hit menopause, I started losing my hair and had almost given up on my once-pretty locks. My hair was dull, thin, and lifeless, except for the frizz that I couldn’t tame. The Young.Again products by Kevin.Murphy changed my life!
I use the Young.Again.Wash and Young.Again.Rinse every day, as well as the Young.Again.Masque once per week. After using these products for several months, my hair has grown back fuller and stronger and feels almost like it did in my early forties.
But the real game-changer for me has been the Ever.Smooth spray, which is activated by the heat of my blow dryer. The Ever.Smooth spray protects my hair from heat and gives me the smoothest finish I’ve ever had outside the salon! Since using Ever.Smooth, I’ve not had one frizzy day! It’s truly the best product I’ve ever used and a must-have if you’re going to the beach or hanging out in tropical humidity! That’s why it’s on my list of essential items women over 40 must have for Summer!
2. Flowy Sun Dresses
Who doesn’t like to feel pretty in pink? I bought this feminine, flowy sundress on Amazon from BerryGo. I love to wear mid- to maxi-length dresses in the Summer. They are cool and comfortable and no tan on the legs required! Top them with a little denim jacket when the nights get cool to complete the look.
3. St. Tropez Self-Tanner
I’m very fair-skinned and have struggled to look tan practically my whole life! Of course, now all I need is a good photo filter app to have that sun-kissed glow in photos. But occasionally, I like to look less ghostly white in person without the damaging UV Rays that further age my skin. Enter the St. Tropez self- tanner. My daughter has used it for a few years now and swears by it. So, I thought I would give it a try! I bought the starter kit in case I didn’t like it. And guess what, it worked! My legs are less white (still not tan by normal standards) and the tanner doesn’t smell! I’m not going to lie. You can probably get a similar tan with Jergen’s for less, but it’s really nice to not smell like self-tanner!
4. Boho Jewelry
This Summer, no outfit is complete without boho jewelry! I love how these stacked necklaces go with my plunging neckline. And this bracelet is both rugged and feminine with its leather and pearl combination. The best thing about costume jewelry is that you can stay on trend without investing a bunch in a look that will be gone next season.
5. Supergoop Anti-Aging Eye Cream with Oat Peptide SPF 37
I’ve been doing a lot of research around the best anti-aging eye creams, and this one comes up consistently in the top two. There’s a reason for that! Not only does it have SPF protection, but its natural oat peptides stimulate collagen production and hydrate your skin to make it more firm! As an added bonus, it has minerals that reduce the appearance of dark circles too! I’ve really noticed a difference in my under-eye wrinkles since I’ve been using it! It now has a place in my heart and a top spot on my list of 8 essential items women over 40 must have for Summer!
5. Wide-Brim Sunhats
Floppy straw sun hats are huge this Summer! And they offer great sun protection for those of us who want to protect our faces from the aging properties of the sun’s harmful UV rays. I just love this hat by Furtak with my new flowy sundresses! And you can find a straw sunhat anywhere – Target, Amazon, Walmart, literally anywhere!
7. Straw Handbags
Straw handbags are so on-trend this Summer, and they are affordable too! I love this handbag that I can either take downtown or to the beach! It is pretty and feminine, and like the boho jewelry, it allows you to stay on-trend without breaking the bank!
8. Flatform Sandals
These sandals are everywhere this Summer, and I know why! They are so comfortable! No need to wear high heels when these sandals can make any Summer outfit look chic! They are perfect for the backyard, a shopping mall, or lunch with the girls!
Of course, there are many more things that I would love to buy for Summer, tie-waist shorts, tank tops, a killer serum, and body lotion, to name a few. What do you consider to be the essential items women over 40 must have for Summer? Leave a comment and let me know!
